Ready to switch your beloved pet to ZIWI? We can help! Below you’ll find tips, tricks, and tools to switch even the fussiest cats to a better diet.
Mixing ZIWI Peak® with your pet's existing food over 7 days – adding a little more each day, up to their recommended daily amount – can really help with the switch. Remember to reduce the amount of the old food to allow for the introduction of the ZIWI.
ZIWI is different from many other pet foods – because it is so nutrient-dense, you’ll be feeding less volume compared to other foods which are packed with fillers.
Having trouble getting your beloved furball to do… anything? You're not alone. Cats are instinctively resistant to change in their environment – this is especially true when it comes to their diet, which goes back to when cats were wild and faced with eating new and unfamiliar foods. Some take change in their 4-legged stride, but others can be especially fussy felines.
Start feeding ZIWI as a treat in a different area of the home from where you normally feed their food. Eventually transition this amount to a full meal.
Have a good play or exercise session with your cat before dinnertime to get their tummies rumbling.
Does your cat keep looking to you? Try petting them when they're at the food bowl, to let them know it's all ok.
Leave the food down for 30 minutes, then put it away. Your cat will learn that food only appears on a schedule.
Try the “caviar” method – top a small amount of ZIWI Peak air-dried on their wet food to create a more distinguished dish for your fancy feline.
Try sprinkling it onto ZIWI Peak wet canned food, slowly adding more over time. Nothing suspicious going on here - just dinner with a little treat on top!
Remember to always reseal the air-dried pouch after each and every mealtime – then store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Our moist canned food must be refrigerated after it has been opened and should be used within 7 days.
Overfeeding or underfeeding even a small amount can result in your cat getting quite a bit too much, or not enough. A scale helps you feed the perfect amount, every time.
Through our slow and gentle air-drying process, 1 portion of our food is equivalent to 3 portions of raw meat! That’s because the majority of the moisture has been removed – locking in all the goodness a raw diet has to offer. As cats thrive on a carnivorous diet, ZIWI Peak recipes don’t contain any fillers, so it’s sure to satisfy your cat’s daily nutritional needs.
Absolutely! Just make sure you work out the feeding requirement for each food type with a little help from our Feeding Calculator. Then, it’s as easy as reducing the amount fed of each by half if you’re wanting to feed a 50:50 mix, or multiplying by the percentage ratio you wish to feed.
Topping with ZIWI Peak is an excellent and affordable way to deliver the nutritional boost your cat deserves! When used as a topper, we typically recommend replacing 25% of your pet's daily diet with ZIWI Peak (based on required daily kcal).
To help calculate the appropriate amount to top your pet's bowl with, use our Feeding Calculator. Just like people, each pet is unique. We recommend you monitor your pet's weight and adjust feeding amounts accordingly.
That’s why we recommend you monitor your cat’s condition and adjust the feeding amount if you find they are unintentionally losing or gaining weight.
Thinking about switching your dog over to ZIWI? You’ve come to the right place. Below you’ll find some tips, tricks, and tools to ensure your dog makes a transition that’s all smooth sailing.
Of course, no two dogs are the same. That’s why we recommend you monitor your dog’s condition and adjust the feeding amount if you find they are unintentionally losing or gaining weight.
A picky pup is more likely to eat up if they’re not comparing their dinner to a tempting liver treat!
Try adding a little bit of our canned food to our air-dried food – most dogs find canned food highly palatable, due to the high moisture content.
Add a small amount of chicken or vegetable broth to your dog’s food for some extra flavour. If this works, slowly reduce the amount of broth you add over the transition period.
If your pup hasn’t finished eating within 20 minutes, it may be that they’re just not hungry. Take it away and offer it again 2-3 hours later. Hint: don’t offer any other foods or treats in the meantime, or you may be back to square one!
Going for a walk or playing an energetic game at home can increase your dog’s appetite. So try to exercise them before mealtimes, rather than after.
Some dogs are easily distracted, so help them stay focussed by feeding them in a quiet area, without children or other dogs around.

For small dogs of 2.2lb / 1kg to 8.8lb / 4kg we recommend you weigh ZIWI food on reliable scales. Overfeeding or underfeeding even a small amount like 0.35oz for a 2.2lb dog / 10 grams for a 2kg dog, can result in your pup getting quite a bit too much, or not enough.

During the first 1 to 2 weeks, your dog’s stools may be a little softer than usual.
This is completely normal as their gut adapts to a new whole-prey diet. Their tummies will settle down eventually.
If your dog’s stools remain soft or runny it could be a sign that your dog is being overfed. ZIWI Peak is nutrient-dense, so be sure to use the Feeding Calculator to double-check feeding amounts. During the transition phase, keep an eye on how many treats your dog is getting, and remember to reduce the amount of their old food.
For dogs with sensitive stomachs, try transitioning over 10 days and stick to a protein that has worked well in the past, like chicken.
We’ve made it easy for you to work out the right amount of food for your dog! Simply add your dog’s details into our feeding calculator and you’ll be feeding them the right amount every time.
