What is the current situation in New Zealand?

The New Zealand Government has recently confirmed an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on one commercial egg farm in Otago, which is in the South Island.

This outbreak is being closely managed by New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and Biosecurity New Zealand, with extensive measures in place to eradicate the outbreak and prevent it from spreading anywhere else.

Under international food safety protocols, the export of all chicken and egg products from New Zealand is currently suspended until the outbreak is eradicated. This includes all chicken and/or egg products currently on their way to international markets.
